Known locally as THE DIVA OF DIVINATION, I began my journey to explore and explain the mysteries of Divination at the tender age of five. I remember having a conversation with, what I assume, was Divine Source. The song "Row,Row,Row Your Boat" was being sung in the background. When it got to the part "...and Life is but a Dream", the music swelled as if sung by a choir of angels. Then a beautiful voice said very clearly, "Am I dreaming you? Or are you dreaming Me?" From then on my early childhood was peppered with incidents of deja vu, premonition, shape shifting and astral projection which were explained away in my good Catholic, French Canadian family as a child's active imagination.
It wasn't until I gained access to the "adult section" of the local library at the age of 13 that I happened upon the teacher who began to explain my experiences and open doors of curiosity that have led me on a deepening of my work through time, Carl Gustave Jung.
"Man and His Symbols" opened a world of probability, a world of where ancient beliefs and traditions merge into modern science through the doorway of the mind. Though information was limited in the early 60's on the process of divination, I was able to pick my way through a few classic texts on the subject and step into it sideways by exploring the workings of the mind through philosophy, psychology and art.
I guess I have always had the knack of looking at things as bigger and wondrous than they seem at first blush. Implications, iterations....have you ever felt that way? That there is something more...something hiding , just beyond your sight, that implies that the world is STILL a marvelous place of wonder? Well, that is naturally where my mind goes.
I had a mind that made connections and saw patterns!
"Look at this piece of art over here...doesn't it look an awful like that one over there!" "Isn't it funny how this myth seems to explain this phenomenon!" "How can I possibly turn over a card and have what I say as a result of my response to an image come true?" Did I "see" something in the future...OR did what I said have an affect on the mind and actions of my listener?"...hmmmm...good question.
There was a great show on PBS many , many years ago called CONNECTIONS that took events and inventions through history and showed how they were related and caused other events and inventions...one thing connected to another. When I first read Mirceau Eliade's classic on SHAMANISM and Joseph Campbell's work on myth I saw an instantaneous connection...shamanism, magic, belief in the wondrous has never really left us. Oh, it has changed names but especially now, that science is beginning to prove the, what has yet only been implied, I truly believe our awareness and ability to connect with a Source outside ourselves can only improve and enhance our everyday lives.
